After studying towards a sociology degree whilst living in New Zealand, Paramjit began her legal career in 1997 when she was admitted as a barrister and solicitor. In 2001, she started her own practice specialising in Property, Immigration and Family law matters in the courts of Auckland, and successfully ran it for 16 years before returning home to the UK. After taking some time to acclimatise and nurture her family, Paramjit returned to the law in 2018 by accepting the offer of inhouse legal advisor for a property developer. Three years later she took her first role in a UK law firm working in Commercial Property before joining Dutton Gregory in 2023.
‘The transfer from New Zealand to UK law was pretty straightforward because, as a member of the Commonwealth, it is largely a comparable jurisdiction and judicial system,’ Paramjit recalls. ‘I have always had a natural interest in property, so when I needed to choose a particular legal discipline, I did not hesitate to choose working in this area. No two matters are ever the same, the work is always interesting, and I have always found overcoming obstacles to get a deal over the line tremendously satisfying.”
In her spare time, when not supporting her children and looking after her grandchild, Paramjit plays football with the women’s social walking Team at Eastleigh Football Club. ‘I played 11-a-side when living in New Zealand and am delighted to have had the opportunity to continue playing, with a group of ladies in a league.” Paramjit also loves a live concert, theatre and travel.
