Why A Career In Law?
Paul’s decision to pursue a career in law stemmed from determination and ambition at a young age – when he was just seven years old, a teacher doubted his ability to succeed as a solicitor, so from that moment he was driven to prove otherwise and while doing so, fell in love with law.
Law appealed to Paul as a profession that not only presented intellectual challenge but also offered the opportunity to help others and build a meaningful career.
While a 7-year-old Paul may not have fully comprehended the realities of the profession, his drive to achieve and make a difference has remained central to his journey.
Paul's path to leading this fast-growing firm was forged from hard graft, grit, and a stubborn refusal to let anyone out-work him.
Now frequently featured on LinkedIn’s ‘lawyers you cannot avoid’ list, Paul grabs with both hands the opportunity to make a difference and the chance to help others, regardless of their background.
Supporting Clients
For Paul, client support hinges on one key principle: communication – to him, keeping clients fully informed is essential, and he lives by the mantra that if you are not updating a client, someone else will.
Paul believes that being proactive, transparent, and responsive ensures peace of mind for clients and reinforces trust. Whether the news is good or bad, Paul prioritises making sure clients hear it directly and promptly, allowing him to stay in control of the situation and maintain professional integrity across all areas of law.
A Successful Day
For Paul, a successful day is one which has allowed him to help people be the best that they can be – whether that is clients or colleagues.
Rewarding Elements
Paul feels that the most rewarding element of his role is the quiet satisfaction of knowing that his work, often unseen, contributes to the safety, stability, and smooth operation of Dutton Gregory, its clients, and introducers.
Paul appreciates that running a law firm involves many moving parts, and that success depends on collaboration rather than recognition so, for him, the real reward lies in ensuring everything continues to function seamlessly behind the scenes, without the need for fanfare.
Paul also deems himself fortunate to get to speak to lots of interesting people from different walks of life every single day, meaning no two days are the same.
A Historical Trial That Paul Would Have Liked To Have Attended
If he could attend any historical trial, Paul would choose Fagan v Metropolitan Police Commissioner.
The case, which he first encountered while studying his degree, left a lasting impression for its exploration of mens rea and actus reus.
He would have loved to witness Mr Fagan’s reaction in the dock when told he was guilty of assaulting a police officer, likely believing at the time that he had a clear defence.
Trusted by our clients
Not weeks, Not days, Not hours … minutes.
I know he and his team were busy, but my purchase was worth far more than a process to them—it was buying our first family home together.
Paul treated it accordingly. Against all odds, he delivered

Paul Sams gets it.
He understands what clients go through during the property process. That is why I have used him on several occasions and happily recommend him.
