Why A Career In Law?

James chose a career in Law as he believes that it has always been considered a respectable profession. Additionally, he’s always had an academic eye for detail, which is relevant in many areas of the Law.

“Property Law more specifically perhaps chose me; my first job following graduation was dealing with Land Registry applications on property transactions, and that grew into assisting on files and then fee-earning in my own right.”

James now has a wealth of experience in many different areas of conveyancing yet still takes a huge amount of satisfaction from every call to a client to let them know that exchange or completion has taken place.

Supporting Clients

James believes that communication is key to ensuring clients feel supported and have peace of mind that their matter is in safe hands.

Keeping clients informed of both progress and the process for their particular matter ensures that they don’t feel any frustrations.

As James says: “Talking to clients and letting them know what is happening now, and what needs to happen next; this includes taking the time to explain things in plain English, and being honest with clients about delays and timescales. The more information a client has, the smoother their journey will usually be.”

Rewarding Elements

For James, the biggest reward is knowing that he has played a small part in helping clients with the next steps in their lives, whatever that might look like.

“Whether it is young couples buying their first homes together, growing families needing more space, older clients downsizing to help their own children, even small businesses moving from the spare room to their own premises, I always take a great sense of satisfaction when completion has taken place.”

Why Dutton Gregory?

James highlights everyone working hard to deliver for our clients as one of his reasons for working at the firm.

“Dutton Gregory has a great culture, where everybody truly works as a team. We're not just a series of individuals, every person who plays a part in a client's instruction is genuinely invested in the outcome, and for the client to have the best experience they can possibly have.

Another reason James points to is our use of technology to deliver the best-possible client experience: “We use technology in a positive way, it isn't just email updates with no context, or a system which works against us, we're actually using it to help us do our jobs and benefit the client's journey.”
