Francis Benali, the legendary Saints footballer, has just announced his intention to run almost 1000 miles in 3 weeks, all in aid of Cancer Research UK, for whom he hopes to raise £1 million in sponsorship.
The run sees him start on Sunday 24 August at Newcastle’s ground and finish at St Mary’s Stadium in Southampton on 13 September 2014.
Franny says that committing himself to such a large challenge will test him to the limit, and probably beyond, both physically and mentally. The fact that this route hasn’t been run before, and so many experts have said that it can’t be done, means that the sense of achievement at the end will be amazing!
The Benali family have their own experience of dealing with cancer, with Franny’s mum having to have a full hysterectomy after cancer cells were discovered. Francis said it felt natural to want to help and after years of keeping match fit and living a healthy lifestyle, a physical challenge seemed the best way of raising the large amount of money for Cancer Research UK that he wanted.
