Generation Rent is the term often ascribed to those who are looking to rent residential property on a long term basis sometimes through choice but frequently due to rising house prices in London and the south east.
With the average cost of renting in Greater London now exceeding £1250 pcm (October 2012) there is growing pressure on government to actively encourage growth in the private rented sector to help curb ever increasing rents. The issue was recently the subject of a televised debate chaired by the Independent's Julian Knight.
